Board Report: By Shaun Wicklein
RECYCLING!!! It is time to be a little greener, not from swimmining in the pool after dinner, but evnironmentally. Did you pick up a curbside recycling bin on June 7th over in Milestone? Did you get your Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVMA) flier in the mail giving details of the curbside recycling program? You didn't? You forgot? You lost it? Don't worry; here is a little information to get you started.
The CVMA web site (http://www.cvwma.com/) contains alot of useful information. Go to the Recycling Programs area and look for the Curbside Recycling program. Fill out the Recycling Service Request Form for bins and information. You also can call the recycling hotline at (804) 340-0900. Curbside recycling is scheduled to begin Thursday July 10th and occur biweekly. The flier and web site contain all kinds of useful information, including a schedule calendar, types of recyclables accepted, and recyclable preparation tips. Our flier is posted on the refrigerator. Come on, get on board and let's make AshCreek green!
Mentioning the start of recycling in July reminded me that it is summer, schools out, and I better keep my car doors and side garage door locked. This is a good idea any time, but seems to be particularly important here in the summer. Not having grown up in Virginia it is interesting to observe a different "right of passage" for teenage kids. There has been a rash of car break-ins and alcohol stolen from garages in the neighborhood. Take a look at the Hanover County Sheriff's reminder later in the newsletter. Also, visit the Hanover County web site (www.co.hanover.va.us) and search for "Thefts From Vehicles On Rise". Let's all keep our eyes open and look out for our neighbors.
Have a wonderful summer, be safe on vacation, and enjoy a dip in the AshCreek pool. See you there!
